Here are five of the most scenic drives in Curaçao, each offering a different experience of the island.
1. Willemstad to Westpunt: The Classic Coastal Drive
Distance: 45 km one way
Duration: 1–1.5 hours (without stops)
Best time: Early morning or late afternoon
Road type: Paved highway, then packed dirt for the final 8 km
This is the island’s signature drive. You leave Willemstad heading west, passing through suburban neighborhoods, then the road opens up to reveal the Caribbean Sea on your right. As you approach Westpunt, the coastline becomes more dramatic—limestone cliffs dropping into deep blue water, coves with white sand beaches, and the occasional goat crossing the road.

2. The Eastern Route: Willemstad to Playa Grandi and Beyond

Duration: 45 minutes (without stops)
Best time: Morning for snorkeling, afternoon for sunset
Road type: Fully paved
The eastern coast of Curaçao is less visited by tourists but equally beautiful. This route takes you from Willemstad along the southeastern shore, past luxury villas and resort areas, to some of the island’s best snorkeling spots.
Don’t miss:
- Playa Grandi (Playa Piskado) — swim with sea turtles
- The salt flats near Jan Thiel — pink-hued in the afternoon light
- Curious Corner of Curaçao — a colorful art installation worth a photo stop

3. Christoffel Park Loop: Mountain and Sea
Distance: 20 km loop
Duration: 1–2 hours (with stops)
Best time: Early morning (park opens at 6 AM)

If you’ve already driven to Westpunt, extend the trip with a loop through Christoffel National Park. The park’s internal roads take you through dry tropical forest, past historical plantation houses, and up to viewpoints overlooking both the northern and southern coasts.

This is a relaxed evening drive along the southern coast, perfect for your last night in Curaçao. Start in Willemstad, drive west along the coast past Mambo Beach and Jan Thiel, then loop back through the interior. The sunset over the Caribbean is spectacular from multiple points along this route.

For a different side of Curaçao, drive through the island’s interior. The countryside is dotted with historical plantation houses (landhuizen), cactus-studded hillsides, and small villages that tourists rarely visit. This route gives you a sense of what Curaçao looked like before the resorts arrived.

- Landhuis Bloemhof — art gallery and cultural center in a historic plantation house
- The village of Barber — a small town with local character
- Cactus landscapes in the interior hills

Tips for Scenic Drives
Start Early or Late
Curaçao’s midday sun is intense. The best light for photography and the most comfortable driving temperatures are early morning (before 10 AM) and late afternoon (after 4 PM).
Bring Water and Snacks
Some of these routes pass through areas with no services. Bring water, especially for the Westpunt and countryside drives.
Pull Over Safely
The views are distracting. Use designated pull-offs or wide shoulders. Never stop in the middle of the road.
